2008Please note, the following emergency treatments are based on personal experience and provided for information purposes only, always consult your doctor prior to using any alternative or complimentary methods of treatment.
The Quickest way I found to relieve gout attacks;
Take the medication your doctor prescribed for treating your gout. If you don’t have prescribed medication for your gout use an over-the-counter NSAID such as Ibuprofen .
Recommended dosage for treating acute gout attacks.
Ibuprofen,(OTC), take 800 mg 4 times a day
Reduce the dosage as the attack subsides.
See your doctor or visit a hospital as soon as possible for an injection of steroid or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), to quickly relieve the pain.
Remove the shoes, socks, or tight clothing from the attack area and avoid any stress or pressure on them.
Apply an anesthetic numbing spray, cream or lotion to the affected area, which will help to numb the pain, (such products can be purchased easily over the counter from any chemist, drug store).
Avoid using aspirin as it will worsen the attack.
Avoid alcohol, acidic foods and drinks, fizzy drinks,orange juice,tomatoes,citrus fruit, red meat as they will all worsen and prolong gout attacks.
Try to consume at least 2 liters of mineral or filtered water every day.
You need to alkalize your body and increase it’s blood PH level to around 7, the quickest way I have found of doing this is by the use of ordinary baking soda (nothing special here, just the backing powder you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard). Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda to a medium, half pint sized glass of mineral or filtered water and drink every four hours (do not exceed more than four glasses in one day). Baking soda, is known to accelerate the urinary excretion of excess uric acid and will remove the build up of the uric acid crystals from around the affected joint. Baking soda, due to its acid level, increases the effectiveness of NSAIDs. Please note, due to the high sodium content of the backing soda, avoid using any other forms of salt while using baking soda due to its high sodium content. Using backing soda is not advisable for people who suffer with high blood pressure, or heart conditions.
Remember to get your doctor’s approval before trying this.
Use ice to cool the swelling and pain. Gently rub the ice over the effected area for around 10 minutes.
Rest joint until gout is completely gone, premature use of the affected joint may prolong or bring back the attack.
Find out all you can about your gout condition so you will be able to prevent and treat future attacks in a sustainable way, use the right approach and you may never have to worry about having another attack. Be prepared, gout usually starts with little or no warning. This quick remedy is designed to address an acute and unforeseen attack and while very effective is not the best way of treating and preventing gout in the long term. Stop using this method when your attack is over and find a sustainable method of relief.
