Writing is a profession where the aim is to produce a worthwhile goods that endorses a particular idea, point of view or business. Excellent business writing will aim to demonstrate the audience the quality of the products or idea and why it is perfect for them. Examples of where business writing is used and how to write are for television ads, letters, net blogs, billboards and any written material used in advertising media.

A business writer works together with an art team to develop a multimedia work that uses words, colours and imagery to enhance the goods and appeal to the reader. The writer has accountability for how to write the written substance of the piece and the art director has accountability for the visual content of the work, as well as directing the finished job itself. The most impressive material is created when the copywriting and art groups join forces and collaborate in harmony.

Copywriting is an integral aspect of the advertising world as it is accountable for the sayings that stay with us, telling us why an issue is necessary to hear, why a product would be important to us. Business writing is accountable for the content and, in this way, is similar to a technical writer although a copywriter strives to promote goods or ideas and not merely to instruct the reader of it.

With the coming of the net, new opportunities have happened for copywriters as they endeavour to endorse web pages, new goods, new services and new ideas through the internet. The net has also made it easier for writers to find and get in contact with businesses that need their skills and to make a living from freelance business writing. There are many web-pages that are now dedicated to connecting business writers with employers who need to know how to write.

The net has also meant that writers have needed to learn new abilities, such as SEO. Search engine optimization allows for a copywriter to ensure that their product can be found competently through the internet. Using how to write strategies such as strategic word placement and the repetition of certain keywords helps the goods to be ranked highly by a search engine, an integral business writing know-how in today’s net-savvy world.

To be an excellent business writer, it is important to have superb communication skills and know how to write. All copywriters should have a have a excellent vocabulary and superb word, spelling and grammar skills. It is also important to have some education in business writing and there are many academies and companies that specialize in training you to be a business writing professional. Many of these academies and businesses offer online courses and there are many books that also offer advice.

As a copywriter, you will find your talents in demand across the country and across thousands of industries. Not only with advertising agencies, copywriters are in demand for all businesses that have goods, service or opinion to publicize. TV networks, radio shows, start-up businesses, e-companies, small businesses, multinational companies and everything in between have a want for the advertising of their company and their merchandise. Many in the copywriting business now work freelance for themselves and are hired on a contractual basis, allowing them to choose the jobs they work on and the corporations they work for, all at times suitable to them.

Copywriters are behind some of the most well-known promotional campaigns in the world. It was famous business writer David Ogilvy that created the famous Dove soap slogan “only Dove is one-quarter moisturizing cream” and William Bernbach was a business writer who came up with the “think small” ad campaign for Volkswagen Beetle, a campaign respected as one of the top publicity campaigns of the 20th century. Therefore copywriting has the power to not only reach the readers but to create a lasting impression on the world through the impact of their talents.

Police Anger

Sir Ian’s demise has angered the police. Different sections of the police are angry for different reasons. One could be forgiven for dismissing these ‘copper’s rantings’ as something relevant only to the police themselves. That is not the case.

Lets start with the simple, yet superficial issues. Many rank and file officers if you read the Internet police forums are angry at what some see as the Commissioner’s operational incompetence, or at the very least the damage his operational blunder’s have heaped on not just the Met but the whole of the UK Police Service. As one member of the Police Oracle forum opines, “We need to go back to Forces being led by coppers not bean counters”. It is fair to say that Sir Ian has had difficulty fully engaging with many Metropolitan police officers and staff.

So officers are annoyed with the Commissioner and many are glad he is going. But the next thing they are angry about is the nature of his departure, and this is on two levels. Many officers are angry that Boris Johnson has been able to easily out manoeuvre both the Commissioner and the Home Secretary in such a calculated coup. And for many this is as far as their anger goes. But for others, as someone on the police forum succinctly puts, “his resignation is perhaps the most significant and overt act of political interference wielded over the police we have yet to see”. This is the nub of the wider and far more serious concern.

Policing in the UK has historically enjoyed a ’separation of powers’, keeping the judiciary, the police and politicians separate. If left unchecked the ability of a locally elected official to in effect sack a Chief Constable fundamentally changes this relationship.

The British public elect a government. Very often Law and Order is a fundamental part of their voting decision. So if, say, people in Birmingham are concerned about the threat of terrorism, they may vote for the party they think will use the police most effectively to counter this threat. The Association of Police Officers (ACPO) assigns Chief Constables policing ‘portfolios’, one of which is terrorism - in this instance held by Sir Ian Blair. This carries with it heavy national policing responsibilities both operational and strategic. All OK so far. Then along comes a local vote hundreds of miles away in London (and perhaps in the future in other cities) to elect a Mayor. The Birmingham voters have no say as it apparently does not concern them. However within hours of that appointment the Mayor in reality sacks the very Chief Officer who was appointed by the Home Secretary of the elected government and who has national counter terrorism responsibilities. Forget the fact that Jacqui Smith has the only statutory authority to hire and fire the Commissioner. The fact is she is impotent in the face of a Mayor who is Chair of the Police Authority and flatly refuses to work constructively with the Commissioner. Boris has rendered the Home Secretary irrelevant, along with the general election votes of all those people in Birmingham.

So, as Lord Steven’s said in relation to Blair’s departure ‘This is a sad day for the Office of Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police’. I intend to agree, but it could also be seen as a sad day for democracy if we aren’t very careful.

So there maybe much hand-wringing within the Police service, Whitehall officials may call it ‘a very black day for the Constitutional position around policing’ and Sir Ian may be licking his wounds, but what that matters now is future clarity.

The public have a right to know who can influence matters of national importance which have always been understood to be controlled by our national democratic system. If mayoral systems are to be introduced with distinct control over the police in their city, clarification must be forthcoming as to the relationship between these mayors and the elected Home Secretary concerning policing issues which have national ramifications. I am not advocating either local or national control - just for the public, and the police service to be appraised of such important issues.

Sir Ian Blair politicised the office of Commissioner and has now fallen victim to political manoeuvring. Perhaps he cannot complain. But members of the police service and members of the public have the right to, and indeed should, complain about the lack of ‘due process’ so that the flexing of politicians’ muscles does not seriously damage law and order in the UK.

I Hate to Write Articles - Is There An Easier Way?

Running and developing an internet business requires fresh content for your site on a regular basis. Daily if possible. Fresh content articles lures your prospects to your site by quenching their thirst for information and knowledge.

But what are you going to do if you can’t or don’t want to write?

First of all, if you just don’t like writing and you don’t want to hire someone to write for you, you can get a lot of free articles online. One place to look is at public domain articles. Copyright infringement is not an issue with public domain articles.

Public domain writings are simply expired copyrights. When a work is originally copyrighted, the copyright only lasts for a specified period of time. If the copyright isn’t extended, usually when an author dies, then it simply expires. Then the writing is placed in the public domain. These are articles or writings that were once published works and so the English and grammar should be very good. You may need to check copyright laws in the country in which you reside for more information.

The flipside of using public domain articles is that your competition may also be using them. But you should be able to verify this easily enough in the search engines. You may have to edit them a little in order to put your keywords and phrases in appropriately. Additionally, be sure that they pertain to your niche topic.

Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites which have similar content to submit articles to your site. Most bloggers today do utility posting which is exactly this. They use content from other blogs and give the blog a trackback (link).

Now, you might be saying — wait a minute, I don’t want links to other sites on my site! Well, if that’s what you think, you’re a little behind the curve because that’s exactly what Web 2.0 is all about! Google knows this and is now serving up pages based primarily on their social popularity. Google weighs other parts of the site as well, but always remember that social populariaty is VERRRRY important!

So, forget about keeping all the links to yourself and start sharing as much as you can.

But, here’s the gold nugget in all of this and why I’m writing to you today. There are also a lot of article sharing services popping up online. I recently joined one and not only do they send my “unique” articles to about 700 sites each time I submit one, but I also subscribe to the service and get as many unique articles each day as I need. And, you don’t have to write articles if you only want to receive articles.

Hey, it’s not expensive and it’s the best way I know of to share links and get unique content on a regular basis. This makes it so easy for me to post to my blog sites now. I choose the categories, I choose how many articles I want each day and I choose whether or not to actually post them. After all, as we discussed earlier, not everyone can write well! Crappy content gets the boot!

And, one more thing I would also like to point out. There are many sites on the Internet that offer Private Label Rights Articles that can published on your site. Some of them are free or have free starter memberships. You can also take credit for writing these articles yourself. If you like, you can rewrite them too. That’s how I wrote this article. I’m pretty good at writing, but the ideas don’t always come quickly. When I start with a PLR article, the ideas flow easier and I don’t have to create all of the original content.
