Acoustic Guitar Chords

An acoustic guitar chord consists of several notes played simultaneously. There are several different acoustic guitar chords but one needs only to learn a few basic chords in order to play hundreds, if not thousands, of different songs. A basic fact to commit to memory before you begin is that major chords should sound bright while minor chords sound dark.

Acoustic guitar chords are expressed in print as chord diagrams. Chord diagrams for acoustic guitars look like guitar tabs for electric guitars but while guitar tabs are printed side-to-side (horizontally), acoustic guitar chord diagrams are vertical (top to bottom). The chord diagram appears as a series of crossed lines with vertical lines to mark each string, horizontal lines to mark each fret and dots to mark the spot where the string should be held down.

Numbers will be at the top or bottom of the acoustic guitar chord diagram. This diagram represents the finger that holds down each strong - 1 means the index finger, 2 means the middle finger, 3 the ring finger, and 4 the pinky. If you see a 0, that means to leave the string open when you play. On the other hand, an X means an string open that is not played. And occasionally you’ll see T used. This means to use your thumb to play, but this does not occur too often.

G-major is the first chord we’re going to learn on the acoustic guitar. Place your fingers as follows: middle finger on sixth string at third fret, index finger on fifth string at second fret, ring finger on first string at third fret. Play each note one at a time, including the open strings. Each note should be heard clearly, with no odd buzzing or rattling sounds.

If anything sounds off, you can push down firmer on the string or move your fingers so they are closer to the fret. Your fingers should not be in contact with one another and only on one string at a time. When each individual note sounds good, strum them all together. You have just accomplished a G-major chord on your acoustic guitar.

The E-minor acoustic guitar chord is easier on the left hand. The E-minor chord uses only two left-hand fingers: the index and middle fingers, both on the second fret, of the fifth and fourth strings respectively. Make sure that both strings are held firmly without the two fingers touching each other. You may want to play those two strings several times by themselves before attempting the chord, so you can adjust the fingering if needed. Then strum all strings to play an E minor chord.

Acoustic guitar chords that comprise the basic ones to practice include C-major, D-major, A-minor, and A-major. Practice moving your fingers from one chord to another until it feels comfortable and familiar.

Learning to play acoustic guitar chords will not happen quickly or easily at first and you will have to keep checking your finger placement. But if you continue to practice, practice, practice, the muscle memory will soon take over and you will be moving freely through all of the acoustic guitar chords. In a short time it will become second nature to you.

The History Of The Dragon In Japan

Dragons are a fundamental mythical animal or beast tot he Japanese people. In the Japanese language dragons are referred to as “Ryu” or often “Tatsu”. They of course are large yet slender serpent looking creatures. Often they live around large bodies of water such as the ocean of a big lake. They are well respected as a creature that has tremendous power and therefore the Japanese believe that the very first emperor of Japan had descended from a dragon and therefore is partially god himself.

Like many of the east Asian countries dragons have a long tradition in Japanese culture, art, architecture and literature. There are numerous stories, temples and shrines where dragons play a central role.

One can see the long history and importance role that dragons play in the prevalent use of dragons throughout Japan. Today it is very common to see dragon sculptures at alters, temples and other places of worship. Miyajima is probably one of the most famous temples dedicated to the dragon. Miyajima means The Isle Of The Temple and is a popular place for religious pilgrimage, tourists and travelers to come and pray to the dragon god for good luck and good fortune. Another famous spot can be found at the Sonsoji Temple in Asakusa Japan.

At the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa Japan every spring is a very special time of year. It is rumored that way back in 628 AD two brothers were fishing along the Sumida river. During their fishing trip they discovered a beautiful statue of Kanon the Goddess of Mercy. At the time they made this discovery a gold dragon flew out of the Sumida river and up into the sky as a way to mark such an important event and such a big finding. Thus every spring the dragon in taken out oft he Sesoji temple and then paraded around the temple grounds.

In the Buddhist and even many Taoist traditions the dragon is seen as a mythical beast that represents the hardships that people will have to face and eventually overcome before enlightenment can be obtained.

Not only can the dragon be found in the sculptural and architectural works done by the Japanese but it can also be found in the literary works. For example there is the famous story os an eight headed serpent like that eats young women whole. Susanoo (the hero) is able to trick the serpent. He offers the serpent some sake to drink and then proceeds to get the serpent drunk. He then slays the evil eight headed beast, Yamata-No-Orochi.

No matter how you feel, be it anger, happiness or even excitement can be translated onto a canvas. The unique thing about canvas painting is that every individual has their different styles.

You should choose the right canvases. No doubt about it that there are many types of canvases available in the market. Do not be mistaken. These canvases are made of different materials. Some are made of cotton while some are made of linen. However, the different materials gives out a different effect on the painting and some canvases are not meant for beginners. I suggest that you should use a cotton canvas if you are a beginner.

The most essential item is the canvas. As we all know there are many types of canvases available in the market. If you are wondering which one to choose, well, calm down. This article is here to help. As beginners, you should start painting on cotton canvases. This is because; it does not take a lot of experience to control the flow of the paint on a cotton canvas. However, you must remember that you should choose a cotton canvas that is considered quite thick.

There are many brushes available at the stationery store. Some are sold individually while some are sold in packets. A brush that is considered good quality is a brush that is soft. A fine tip brush is not necessarily good. The size of the brush depends on the area you want to paint on. A good quality brush is usually made of horse’s tail.

One more thing that you should not forget: Turpentine or thinner. Your first masterpiece will definitely create a substantial amount of mess and there will be paint on the floor and maybe even on your hands.

The last thing you should get is a bottle of turpentine or thinner. Let’s face it. It is you first time painting and it would not be very clean. It’ll be a mess! A bottle of turpentine or thinner will help you get rid of the hard to remove stains easily.

Now, get out there and start canvas painting. You should let your emotions do the painting. Once you get the feel of it, you will enjoy canvas painting. Remember; do not be too hard on yourself. It may be difficult at first but don’t worry. Just get the creative juices flowing.
