Unless you live off the grid in a remote area (and if so, you’re probably not reading this anyway), you no doubt hear a lot about the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to live a greener life. It’s important and almost everyone will acknowledge this, but it can feel like you’re being lectured at times.

However, there are some easy ways to live a greener life. Curbside recycling is in place in most cities, where you can simply place your recyclables out with your trash for pickup (in a separate container, of course). It’s easy to separate your plastic, aluminum and other recyclable materials. The recycling pickup service takes care of the rest ? all you have to do is to take it outside!

One great (and easy) way to live greener is to join your local Freecycle email list. Instead of throwing away unwanted items, you can post them on the list ? it’s more than likely that someone will have a need for them. Of course, when you need something, you can look there first before going out and buying new things. Freecycle keeps a lot of trash out of landfills and is a great money saver.

You can substitute some of your household items for more green friendly items. One such item is compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs are much more energy efficient, which means that they use a lot less energy (and save you money) while being about the same price as any other light bulbs ? they also last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

You can also get rid of your existing yard lights and replace them with solar powered lights. These do just as good of a job of illuminating your outdoor spaces, but use no electrical power. You can find solar powered yard lights in a variety of pleasing designs and you can install theme yourself without the assistance of an electrician. Solar powered holiday lights are also available, letting you save money on your electric bill while dressing up your home for the holidays.

Another place to go green and save money is with batteries. Today’s rechargeable batteries last a long time, recharge easily, and save you money. When they finally do run out of their charging ability, rechargeable batteries are recyclable. Just drop them off at your local hardware store for recycling along with any broken fluorescent bulbs.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is easy to be green and even easier too go green. It saves you money while doing something good for the environment. Before you know it, living green will be second nature and you’ll be looking for ways to add some more green living to your lifestyle.

It’s easy to decorate your home using stained glass, and it’s a way to provide an elegant look without a decorating overhaul. You can use stained glass in just about any room in the house. That includes the dining room, living room, kitchen, entryway, office, and bedroom. Stained glass even looks great in the bathroom!

Stained Glass In The Kitchen: You can insert stained glass into kitchen cabinet doors to spice up your ordinary cabinets. For an added effect, install an electric light inside the cabinet to make the glass glow. Custom stained glass panels in front of kitchen windows or smaller stained glass window corners are also a way to add stained glass to your kitchen. You can also use a panel as kitchen wall art.

In the Living Room: Full and partial window panels also work great in the living room, as do pieces with mirrors included. Think about a stained glass fireplace screen if you love to watch the flames dance. Be sure you choose one with clear beveled pieces as well as colored panels - they’ll act as prisms, casting sparkles from the firelight. More choices in the living room include stained glass chandeliers, lampshades, and candle holders. As long as they don’t overwhelm the room, they’re an excellent addition.

Stained Glass Dining Rooms: If you have a large dining room table, think about using large centerpieces made from stained glass to act as a focal point. On the other hand, a small or narrow feeling dining room can be helped by using wall pieces with large mirrors. That’ll increase the appearance of size.

Bedroom Stained Glass Decorating: Decorate your bedroom using stained glass objects like candle holders, terrariums, and jewelry boxes. Mirrors can be used to make this room look larger, too. However, beware of overdoing it - you don’t want your room to look enormous! Use wall pieces and stained glass window ornaments to tie it all together.

Bathrooms and Stained Glass: The bathroom might seem like a strange place to use stained glass, but this versatile material works here, too Think about using stained glass in cabinet doors, around mirrors and in bathroom windows. Colored and textured glass can admit light without allowing you to be seen from outside.

Stained Glass In The Office: Nice looking offices can be created by incorporating stained glass in cabinet fronts, drawers, window panels and more. Smaller accents include desktop sculptures, business card holders, and other items.

Stained Glass Entryways: Stained glass gives you the opportunity to make a great first impression. Use it in your front door, or in the sidelights in your entryway. Panels over the door and other accents are also a great choice.

Stained glass adds a beautiful personal touch to any home, and can work with most decorating schemes. There are lots of sizes, colors and themes available. To find out more, talk to your local stained glass artist or retailer today.

Choosing and Purchasing CNC Machines

Are you in the market for a CNC (Computer Numerated Control) machine? CNCs are very useful for industrial work and woodworking shops. They really aren’t beneficial for the weekend do-it-yourselfer but if you would like increased speed and accuracy on large jobs with repetitive tasks then you should consider purchasing a CNC machine. Here are some tips to determine the right one for you and your budget.

First off, it’s important to know what a CNC machine does and how it operates. It is a machine that performs tasks using woodworking tools. It must be programmed properly before operation and once the initial set up is done, it will do exactly what you’ve programmed. Therefore, if you have a repetitive task then the CNC machine will ensure accuracy and uniformity. For example, a CNC router can be programmed to drill holes in a designated fashion. The results will be more uniform and accurate than drilling manually and you won’t become tired of operating a manual drill.

There are different types of CNC machines depending on the job that needs to be accomplished. The better CNC machines can operate in multiple modes from fully manual to completely CNC so you can tailor the machine to the project and task.

There is the CNC lathe which is for cutting wood. They range from 15-40 horsepower and the amount you need depends on the amount and type of wood you’ll be cutting. There is also the CNC mill which is a special piece of equipment that uses programming along with robotics to ensure accurate results. Once it’s programmed, the CNC machine decides which tools for the job and will automatically change the tools when needed. The Bridgeport mill is the best brand and is used in both small and large industries. They are used in airplane construction for their reliability and accuracy. These efficient and reliable pieces of equipment are very expensive but they’re built to last a lifetime.

There is also CNC engraving equipment which is used for engraving a variety of materials and are more accurate that any manual engraving could be. They are widely used for signage lettering for both large and small projects.

CNC equipment is out of most people price ranges and is therefore something that really requires an industrial need to see a return on investment. If a new machine is too much then consider buying a used machine. If it is a reputable brand and the owner can show you that it’s been properly maintained then it could still last a lifetime. Make sure you see the machine in operation before spending the money.

Not as inexpensive, but still a savings and more reliable is a refurbished CNC machine. The machine is reconstructed by the manufacturer and worn parts are replaced. They often come with a warranty so it offers some consumer safety.

Asian Interior Design Methods Were Developed Through Centuries

If you put up a few Asian language symbols on the wall and add a gong, you think your Asian decorating scheme is complete - right? Many people believe this. What they don’t realize is that Asian interior design methods were developed through centuries of trial and errors and profound ingenuity.

The roots of Asian or Oriental history are interpreted wisely, and always adapted to be a part of today’s modern design technique. It is not unusual to see Asian interior designs in the US. Yet, if all you see is a Chinese eatery, then you have no clue of what is Asian interior design. The real Asian characteristics of interior design are most unusual, insightful and unique, something most Western societies have not truly understood but have unwittingly dealt with every day.

Perspective In Asian interior design, the notion of point of view is most vital. If you ever have strolled around an Asian structure, you will soon become aware of the concept of setting off a room by either dropping down one area or raising another. Asian interior design is to present the view of perspective and to assist a room appear bigger than it really is.

Various Western societies use reflectors to attain the same effect, whereas the Asian societies favor the use of forced perspective in a room. Today, with the tendency toward expertise in enhancing a space size, it is hard to give reason for this sort of design technique. However, it can be valuable if done appropriately.

Gold Dragons Asian culture is celebrated for its dragons but this is one more piece of Americanization at work. For Asian interior design, it is not essentially the image of a dragon that signifies what they are attempting to say but instead, the idea of a mural revealing a story. Eastern dragons may be from Korea, Japan, or China. There are small but delicate distinctions amid them. Numerous flora and fauna add to the dragon’s body. Dragons just turn out to be a popular part of Asian culture that Western cultures have singled out but, if you get a hold of genuine Asian design, you will see tiny scrolls fashioned from bamboo with complete tales on them. This folklore with wall hangings has been going on for ages and has endured into modern times.

Many features of Asian interior design revolve around allowing light to stream in freely with no requirement for power and artificial light. The way an Asian home is typically set up is a throw back to the days before power lighting when the outside light were expected to light up the entire house. It is not seen as much today but the idea of letting the outside light flow in liberally is a very Asian concept.

Choosing the right furniture is more than personal taste when decorating a small rent flat. The right furniture can optimize your limited space while the wrong furniture can make you feel cramped and uncomfortable. Choosing the right colours and sleek furniture that can be used multiple ways will open up your room giving you the feeling of space.

The style of furniture that you choose for your small rental flat is very important. You want to choose furniture that is functional. When you live in a small space, less is more. The furniture you must have needs to be sleek and efficient. An overstuffed couch for example is not a good choice for a very small flat. It will take up too much precious space and you will find yourself cramped and uncomfortable. You may also want to leave the large dining table behind and opt for a smaller breakfast table instead.

One of the easiest ways to save space it to choose furniture that has more than one function. Using a small desk or dresser as a bedside table, for example, eliminates the need for an extra piece of furniture. Another great multitasking piece of furniture is a coffee table with drawers underneath. This allows for storage of children’s toys or guest bedding. For very small efficiency flats a great way to save space is with a futon. No need to cram in a couch and a bed when a futon can be both. A loft bed will also add a great deal of room. You can create more storage by using a chest or other storage devise as a side table. Get creative most of our furniture can have multiple uses if we would only think outside the box.

Another way to add space is with colour. If the owner of your rent flat will allow you to paint the walls you should do so. If you cannot paint a tapestry hung on the wall can be used to add some. When deciding on a colour, choose a soft colour. Pale and neutral colours are good choices to create an open feel to the room. Dark colours like red, brown or blue should be avoided.

Neutral and pale colours are great choices to create the feeling of more space. Dark colours should be avoided because they will make the room feel smaller. If you love dark colours use those with your accessories but avoid putting them on the walls. If you enjoy patterns use vertical stripe to create the appearance of high ceilings or pick wallpaper with a simple design.

When you are searching for flats to rent it is important to look at the potential of the space and not the size. By following these guidelines and adding bit of your own style you can make even the smallest rent flat work for you. It is all about using your space to its full potential.
