A Quinceanera is a special occasion in a young girl’s life. It is an event that is celebrated in most Latin countries. This is a celebration for a girl turning 15 to show her maturity as she enters a new stage in her life. This event is very similar to a Sweet 16.
Since this is a very special occasion the young lady should dress accordingly. She should wear a gown to complement the celebration. Consider a few things when choosing the right dress.
Color: Pink or white is the traditional color. You also have other options. Blue, pastel colors or a beaded white gown can also be worn. Take into consideration that darker colors can make you look more mature. You want your style and design to suit your age.
Design: Reflect on the design that complements your body type. Since this is a Quinceanera celebration your gown should be full length. There is a list of body types below:
Apple Body Type: Elongated bodices and full skirts only create a bigger waistline, as do the corset skirts that criss cross in the middle area, so avoid this type of design. A V-neckline style with an empire waistline will look better for this type of body.
Pear Body Type: Wear gowns with shoulder areas that are puffy or padded to create balance in the upper and lower area of the body. You should likewise avoid body hugging designs or narrow shoulders and puffy skirts because it emphasizes your shape.
Hourglass Body Type: You can go for designs that will compliment your shoulders. Consider designs like v-necks with off shoulders and body hugging sheaths. These designs balance your body structure. Do not wear gowns that are overly decorated and gowns with full skirts. It creates attention on the hips area.
Square Body Type: For young ladies with this body type, you should consider wearing gowns with beaded necklines and full skirts. You can also go for the padded and oversized shoulder designs because it can create an illusion of shape or curve in the body. On the other hand, avoid clothes that are fitting to the body.
Inverted Pear Body Type: A design that suits young ladies with this type of body includes gowns with simple sleeves with full skirts. Avoid wearing the puffy or padded design of sleeves, gowns with empire cut waistlines and gowns with slim skirts.
You should also consider how comfortable you are going to feel in your gown. When the Quinceanera goes to mass she has the option of wearing a shawl so she feels more comfortable going into church. After the program starts she can remove the shawl.
If you choose a strapless gown make sure it is fitted by a professional seamstress. Otherwise you can be very uncomfortable and spend all your time pulling it up. At the reception it is mostly dancing, so you should re-consider a strapless dress.
It is important to note that when choosing the right party dress for the Quinceanera, always consider the body type of the individual and the convenience of the wearer. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, you’ll definitely be more confident during the program and will be able to enjoy more.
